Yard Waste Removal: We can help you quickly and easily dispose of your brush, leaves, and chipped wood. With just one call, we can arrange for all of the equipment and manpower your town requires to efficiently haul your yard waste to our recycling facilities.
For Compost: From screens to process your compost or topsoil to organics recycling equipment complementing your fleet’s capabilities, Harvest is a professional and reliable source for your needs. Two screens are available to rent from Harvest in Connecticut, with or without a wheel loader and operator.
Our McCloskey 621 Trommel Screen is set up for screening compost. It’s ideal for relatively wet material, equipped with brushes that clean the screen cloth as it rotates. This machine’s rotating stacking conveyor can stockpile up to 1800 cubic yards of material without having to move the screening plant.
For Topsoil and Aggregates: Our CEC Screen-it 512 deck screen is ideal for screening topsoil and aggregates. You can easily produce material sized the way you want using its two decks and screen cloth that is simple to change. We use the CEC to screen material containing larger rocks, or to produce finer materials.
We usually rent our wheel loaders with either a grinder or a screen and have also used them for loading out material. They are all well maintained and we provide experienced operators. Our loaders are equipped with interchangeable buckets. We have grapple buckets for moving yard waste, high-tip buckets for loading large trailers and standard buckets for screening.
For Wood Grinding: Use Harvest’s professional wood grinding equipment as needed, to complement your town’s capabilities. Leverage the efficiencies of reliable grinders and expert staff, brought right to your town’s site. When the job is complete, Harvest can also remove ground wood chips from your site.
Our Morbark 1300 Tub Grinder is equipped with a Grapple so it can load itself. The 1300 can also be supplied along with a specially equipped wheel loader on request. Specifications:
- Power – Cat 3412 860 HP
- Tub Diameter – 13′
- Length – 66’6″
- Weight – 83,600 lbs
- Capacity – Varies with the material; throughput generally ranges from 35 – 45 TPH
The Morbark 6600 is especially effective at double grinding to produce a decorative landscape mulch. A wheel loader is required, as the 6600 is not self-loading. Specifications:
- Power – Cat 3412 1000 HP
- Width – 11’2″
- Length – 48’1″
- Weight – 78,000 lbs
- Capacity – Varies with the material; throughput generally ranges from 35 – 70 TPH
For Windrow Turning: Accelerate your compost process. It can be difficult to fully compost leaves before the next year’s leaf collection starts. You can speed up the process with a windrow turner, which is much more efficient than wheel loaders at turning leaves. Harvest’s turner processes more material in one hour than a large wheel loader can accomplish in an entire day. More importantly, windrow turners greatly accelerate the composting process by:
- Introducing more oxygen into the leaves
- Mixing the material to eliminate dry pockets
- Breaking up paper bags
Harvest’s powerful Frontier Turner is available to process your material right at your site. Uniquely configured to be towed behind a tractor, finished compost is produced in just nine months with four turnings supplemented by interim turnings with a wheel loader. Specifications:
- Power – Cat 350 HP
- Width – 8’6″
- Length – 49’9″
- Weight – 32,000 pounds
- Capacity – Maximum windrow width – 16 ft wide, 8 ft high

Q: What should I plant grass seed in?
A: Topsoil Plus! Topsoil Plus is great for growing grass. This enriched topsoil combines fertility-enhancing benefits of compost with the workability of a good loam.
Q: How can I make my existing soil better?
A: By adding Screened Organic Compost. Our compost will improve soil structure, texture and aeration. The compost helps by loosening clay and helps sandy soil retain water.
Q: What are your hours?
Q: Do you deliver? How much for delivery?
A: We do! We require a 3-cubic-yard minimum. The cost is the (Delivery) + (Quantity * Product), with the key variable being the size of truck required to deliver your order. Give us a call at one of the following locations:
Or send us an email through our contact form.
Q: Can you deliver two items at once?
A: Our trucks are not designed to deliver multiple products at one time since there is no divider, but if you would like to have multiple materials on the same truck we can deliver. Please understand that when the truck dumps the materials will mix.
Q: What is in the Ultra Brown Mulch?
A: Ultra Brown Mulch is our most popular colored mulch. Enhanced with a non-toxic colorant, it holds its color longer than traditional mulches and features a consistent natural brown look. Most customers who visit our yards end up choosing Ultra Brown Mulch. Available in Fairfield, Farmington, Ellington, and Wallingford, or let us deliver to you.
Q: Is your compost organic?
A: Yes. Our compost is 100% natural, derived from decomposed leaves and yard trimmings. It is completely safe for use in food production and approved in Connecticut by Baystate Organic Farms for use on certified organic farms. Learn more. Our compost can be used as a soil amendment, top dressing, or for planting and gardening. Available in Fairfield, Farmington, Ellington, and Wallingford, or let us deliver to you.
Q: Is your mulch organic?
A: Our mulch is organic in that it’s a natural wood product. Some of our mulches are colored with all-natural colorants. Our mulches are not certified organic as there is no process to do so.
Q: What do you do with the food waste?
A: We compost it! We put it into long piles called windrows, kind of like your backyard compost heap but much taller and longer. We closely monitor the temperature, airflow, and moisture content of the piles (key ingredients to happy compost micro-organisms) and make adjustments to ensure the piles heat up and decompose properly. After about 6 months we screen it and stockpile it. It’s a nutrient-rich source of energy that improves the biological, physical, and chemical properties of soil performance.
Q: Do you take pallets?
A: Yes, as long as they are not painted or stained, and not made of plywood or particle board.
Q: Do you sell to the public?
A: Of course! Either come to one of our sites with a pickup truck or trailer, or we’ll deliver to you (minimum of 3 cubic yards).
Q: Are you hiring?
A: Oftentimes, especially in the spring. Check out careers page.
Q: Is your mulch treated?
A: No, we do not treat our mulches with any chemicals. They are all organic. Although certain products do have environmentally safe colorants added. We do not add any pesticides or fungicides.
Q: Are the colorants safe?
A: Yes. Harvest only uses environmentally safe colorant. There are no handling or safety requirements for our colorants (even in their concentrated form).
