Looking for food waste disposal? From soup to nuts, we love maximizing the value of organic waste. Some sites turn these nutrient-rich goodies into clean energy. Others go straight into composting. Check site for acceptance specifications.
It’s what’s on the inside that counts. Our depackaging equipment removes boxes, cans, buckets, and bags — to name a few — to unlock your food waste potential!
Got grease? Expired salad dressing? Oil? Bring it to us.
It’s about time we maximize the full energetic potential of our waste products. Feel flush with success with our low solids anaerobic digestion technology.
End to End Management
We provide end-to-end seamless support. At your business or institution, we can provide training and on-the-ground support with bin suggestions, signage, and training. We can help you connect with your hauler. We then produce your energy. On the back end, we can provide you with top quality natural fertilizers. Where others see waste, we see a cycle of energy and nutrients, and we want to help you plug into that cycle!
We provide natural fertilizers from our anaerobic digesters. Either come pick up, or we can arrange for delivery (minimum quantities apply)
Did you know? Approximately 24 pounds of food waste enters Central Florida’s landfills every second. Organic material and food waste in landfills produce a potent greenhouse gas, known as methane. Methane is the second most prevalent greenhouse gas emitted in the United States from human activities and is a contributor to numerous environmental issues, like global warming.
Harvest Power has found a higher and better use for Central Florida’s pre and post-consumer food waste. Through a patented anaerobic digestion process, Orlando’s food and organic waste can be recycled and converted into clean energy, effectively transforming the community’s organic waste problem into a sustainable local resource.
Orlando’s messy problem has a clean solution. Numerous businesses have started carving a new path for food waste with our responsible food recovery solutions.
Q: What happens to my organics?
A: We recycle organic materials at our state-of-the-art Energy Garden: an anaerobic digestion facility that converts banana peels and pizza crusts into renewable energy and compost. The biological process takes a few weeks, and our facility accepts over 250 tons of organic waste per day, making it one of the largest power plants of its kind in North America.
Q: What are the benefits to sorting my scraps and sending them to Harvest Power?
A: Here are the top four reasons:
To Reduce Costs Associated With Food Waste Removal
Food waste is heavy and the disposal costs for trash are generally higher than those for food waste.
The more food waste recovered means less food waste dumped into shrinking landfill space. Through our process, businesses and communities can help produce clean, renewable energy right here in Central Florida!
By participating in Responsible Food Recovery, businesses are helping Central Florida communities meet the challenges at the intersection of waste, agriculture and energy in the 21st century by returning nutrients to local soils.
Food service companies around Central Florida have already adapted to our food separation processes-and have found little to no impact on operational efficiency. Businesses enjoy regularly scheduled organic waste pickup while Harvest helps guide your staff through the implementation of simple separation processes.
Q: What materials are accepted?
A: Our Energy Garden in Florida accepts all types of food waste including meat, fish, fruits, vegetables, grains, scraps, and pet food among others. The facility also accepts liquid wastes including milk, soda, beer and brown grease. See a full list of accepted materials here.
Q: Do you accept yard trimmings or green waste at your Energy Garden in Florida?
A: No, we do not accept yard trimmings or green waste in Florida. Yard, landscaping, or green waste is very good for composting, but not optimal for producing renewable energy in this system. Contact your hauler or municipality with any questions about recycling yard trimmings.
Q: Who picks up my organic materials?
A: Haulers pick up materials from your site. As a processing facility, we have flexibility and work with multiple hauling and waste removal companies. We can work with your current company to set up your organics collection program, or we can recommend a qualified hauling partner.
Q: Can I have any of the fertilizer products that are left after my organics are converted to power?
A: Absolutely. We think it’s great to close the organics loop by providing our customers with fertilizer that we have produced from their organics. We offer special pricing for our feedstock customers.
Q: Will my food waste container smell or attract pests?
A: The materials you place in your food waste container will not smell or attract pests any more than when you used to put them in the garbage. We have experience developing some of the largest organics recycling programs in North America: we have developed tips and tricks to help manage the cleanliness of your carts and containers.
Q: Can I send plastics and glass and garbage to your facility?
A: In general, no. Our site processes organic materials. In general, if it is something you can tear or chew, we want it! The ‘cleaner’ the loads of food scraps, the lower our processing costs and the higher the quantity of renewable energy. We’re careful, though: we have preprocessing technology in case we need to remove contaminants like plastic and metal. If you have packaged food goods that you want to recycle, reach out to us.
Q: Can residents send you materials?
A: In Florida, at this point, no. We only accept from commercial businesses. Thank you for your interest.
