January, 2010

by Associated Press (Business Week)

Waste Management Inc. said Monday that it would invest in Harvest Power, a venture-backed developer of organic waste recycling and composting facilities.

Waste Management, based in Houston, did not disclose the amount invested.

Waste Management, the nation's largest trash hauler, said its goal with the investment is "to extract more value from the materials we manage."

Harvest Power, which is based in Waltham, Mass., processes trash to produce biogas and compost. Its founding investors are Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Munich Venture Partners.
